The Tuesday nonwaiver trade deadline for the MLB is almost near and the Yankees made multiple moves these past couple of days. It’s clear what they want to focus on the most and that’s pitching. They acquired pitchers J.A. Happ, Zach Britton, and Lance Lynn. Britton may be the best acquisition out of all three of them. Britton missed over two months at the beginning of the season, however he is starting to look like the pitcher that he was in past years and even greater.
While the Yankees will likely make more moves before the deadline, the three pitchers they traded for recently are all free agents at the end of this season, so it’s all or nothing this year. The positive is that the team will be more under the luxury tax threshold and they can avoid less tax penalties if they were to go over next season. If the Yankees want to catch the Red Sox this season though, they’re likely going to have to make a move for an outfielder to help weaken the loss of recently injured Aaron Judge.
